Hyla (= Osteocephalus) inframaculata was described on the basis of one specimen collected more than years ago in the neighbourhood of Santarém, Pará, Brazil. Only in three new specimens were collected in the Belo Monte area of the Xingu River, Pará, and ten more in . A review of the nomenclature and taxonomy of these frogs, which superficially resemble Smilisca but are unrelated, is beyond the scope of the present study. Hyla baudini dolomedes Barbour, , is based on a small Smilisca phaeota (MCZ ) having a snout-vent length of mm. Dunn (a) placed dolomedes in the synonymy of Smilisca.
